I am an associate professor in the Department of Communication and Design at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, and I have recently joined the Northwestern University's Buffett Institute for Global Affairs as a Visiting Scholar for my sabbatical year (2024-2025). I received my PhD from the School of Communication at The Ohio State University. Before attending OSU, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey.
My research centers upon the social-psychological determinants of online political activities. Specifically, I investigate how individuals interact with contextual dynamics that influence their biased interpretations about, and responses to, activism-related risks. In my work, I adopt a quantitative approach using survey methodology, experiments and social network analysis.
My work thus far has appeared in New Media & Society, Communication Research, Political Behavior, Social Media+Society, Human Communication Research, Oxford Handbook of New Social Movements, International Journal of Communication, and Social Science Quarterly, International Journal of Public Opinion Research.
